Shadows of Hong Kong

Hong Kong, many live here, few call it home, and fewer still can fully capture its essence in a fitting description; I am not one of them. The first time someone stopped in this area it was likely to trade something, long before there was a city, written records, or even official government the people here got what they could out of the land and sea, and traded it to their neighbors. Trade brought an endless supply of outsiders, merchants, missionaries, pirates, and foreign powers. Everyone wanted to make Hong Kong theirs, and oddly enough the more the outsiders tried to shape it to fit their needs, the more its unique and independent form became defined. Probably owing to the fact that few belong here, and those that do have ingenuity and independence in their bones that when these external forces were applied it put a powerful sense of community, family, and tradition to match.

Now it is 2072, Hong Kong has been here in one form or another for a couple thousand years, the world has fundamentally changed in countless ways, but Hong Kong is still just that.
